Bites & Borders started the way most good things do — with a meal we couldn't stop talking about. It was a fish sandwich on the Eminönü waterfront in Istanbul, eaten standing up while ferries crossed the Golden Horn, and it cost about $2. We'd been to a lot of cities. That sandwich made us realize we'd been doing travel wrong.
We're Chris and Lori — a husband-and-wife team based in Richmond, Virginia. Between us we've visited more than 20 countries, eaten at hundreds of restaurants from beach shacks to Michelin-starred dining rooms, and developed strong opinions about which one is usually better. (It's the beach shack. Almost always the beach shack.)
We built Bites & Borders because we kept getting asked the same questions: Where did you eat in Athens? What's worth doing in Nassau for a day? Is Kauai as good as everyone says? We were writing the same emails over and over. A website made more sense.

Chris is the logistics-and-adventure half of Bites & Borders. A Virginia-based entrepreneur, land developer, and lifelong traveler, he's the one who plans the itineraries, researches the neighborhoods, and insists on eating at the place with no English menu. He's visited 20+ countries across Europe, the Caribbean, and the Americas, and has a particular obsession with Mediterranean food markets and Caribbean cruise ports.
When he's not traveling, Chris runs Indian Acres Campground in Virginia and manages a recording studio — which means he's always looking for the next adventure and always has a story about the last one.
Lori is the food-first half of Bites & Borders — a traveler, home cook, and restaurant obsessive who has eaten her way through the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and beyond. She's the one who knows which neighborhood has the best bakeries, which market is worth waking up early for, and why you should always order the thing you've never heard of.
Her writing focuses on the meals that make a trip unforgettable — the ones you're still talking about six months later. She believes that eating well while traveling doesn't require a big budget, just a willingness to walk away from the tourist street.
Turkey, Greece, Croatia, and the islands in between. Food markets, ancient sites, and the best grilled fish you've ever had.
Hawaii, Florida, the Caribbean — from poke bowls in Kauai to conch salad in Nassau to Cuban coffee in Little Havana.
How to eat well and see something real in 6–8 hours. We've done the research so you don't waste your port day.
